Shopping in Slovakia

There are many supermarkets in cities around Slovakia, which have been built in last few years. Not only supermarkets, but also shopping-leisure centres are available in various Slovak cities. You can rest a little there, drink a cup of coffee or eat in one of many restaurants and your children can enjoy many atractions available in almost every such shopping centre. You can also find cinemas in some of these shopping-leisure centres. Occasionaly events are taking place here too. You can find here several shops with different brand names, which dominate here. It is possible to buy sport clothes, shoes, brand clothes like Alain Delon, Orsay, Reserved, Lifeline, Levis, Kenvelo, Pierre Cardin, Benetton, Keyo, Terranova etc. in every shopping centre. There are several shopping centres specializing in furniture and electronics located in Slovakia. There are groceries in every village and town in Slovakia and the choice they offer is really large and various. Also Town and city centres with many small retail shops offer good shopping. Groceries and other shops are usually open all day during working week and on Saturday till noon. Shopping-leisure centres are open approximately from 9 am till 9 pm every day.

What to buy

Groceries

There are tasty cheeses of high quality produced and sold in Slovakia. You definitely have to taste oštiepok (smoked cheese), parenica and other smoked Slovak cheeses. Fresh bread and good wine or beer is also worth trying. Slovakia is well-known for its brewery and vine culture. The famous one is Tokaji wine and also several different wines of high quality from region of Modra, Pezinok, Nitra and Topoľčianky. Slovakia is rich in number of mineral water springs and therefore famous with various brands of mineral waters. Popular brands of mineral waters are Rajec, Mitická, Kláštorná etc.

Souvenirs

The best place to buy typical slovak souvenirs is the north of Slovakia, mostly in mountain areas, such as Tatra Mountains, regions of Orava, Liptov and Spiš, which are regions of Slovak traditional art and folklore. The Most popular are valaška (axe), used by shepherds in Slovakia, dolls dressed in traditional slovak costumes, which people used to wear in the past, various hand made wooden and ceramic products, table cloths and needlework products. You can buy souvenirs also in the castles, historical towns, and other tourist centres.

Shopping-leisure centres

Palace Shopping Centre

There are a lot of shops, pharmacies, fast foods and coffee-houses, restaurants, banks, betting agencies, hypermarket Tesco and others located in Palace Shopping Centre. Children can rest in children‘s nook. There is no need to look after them, because children can find here creative studios, cinema, slides, climbing wall, merry-go-round or playstation. All these attractions will keep them occupied while you are shopping. For your convenience, parking place is  available in front of the building and it is free.

Avion Shopping Park

There are a lot of shops, restaurants, fast foods, banks, hairdresser’s,  exchange offices, fast cleaner’s, optician‘s, hypermarket Hypernova, electronic shop Datart and pharmacy located in Avion Shopping Park.  Special area called playtime provides fun for children, where they can find small electric cars, motorway, inflatable castle, ball-pool, chess playground with overdimensional statuettes and ice ground (temporary closed at the moment). Parking places are available in front of the shopping park building.

Aupark Shopping Centre

There are also several shops, cinema complex, fitness centrum, betting agencies, roulette club, billiard, children area with professional care for children in age up to 10 years, coffee-houses, confectioneries, restaurants, fast-foods and ticketportal in Aupark Shopping Centre. Parking is directly in the Aupark with navigating symbols for every parking place.

Polus City Centre

Besides several shops you can find there cinema complex, restaurants, fast food, coffe houses and gambling houses, betting agency, exchange office, banks, key service, post office, solarium and ticketportal in Polus City Centre. Supermarket Carrefour is located heretoo. Parking is possible inside of Polus City Centre in the basement or outside at the first floor level. Parking is free within three hours.

Max  Shopping Centre

There are a lot of shops, coffee houses, restaurants, refreshments, banks, bankomats, exchange office  in Max shopping-leisure centre. Hairdresser’s services, pharmacy, sales offices of mobile operators are situated here too. MAX centre has its own parking space, which is located in front of the building and also in its basement area. You do not need to pay for parking here.

Centro

Centro is a circle shaped shopping centre in Nitra, where you can find a lot of shops and supermarket Hypernova. Besides shops, there are also coffee houses and various children areas designed for their entertainment.

Europa  Shopping Centre

Europa is a big shopping centre located in Trenčín and Banska Bystrica has several shops of different brands, banks, sales offices of mobile operators, hairdresser’s, attractions for children and multi cinema.
