The biggest advantages of land lines in Slovakia is the coverage and quality of signal as land lines cover majority parts of whole country of Slovakia with very strong and quality signal. Despite mobile phones telephone receiver is plugged directly to electricity, so you do not have to worry about charging the battery. Old fashion phones do not require electricity at all. In this way, the user is always available. In Slovakia you can find a few different beneficial solutions which come in combination with Internet or television.

Public Phone Booths

Since mobile phone boom, public phone booths are not widely used in Slovakia as most people use cell phones to communicate. You can still find public phones in towns and cities of Slovakia. There are coin operated public phones and phone card operated public phones in Slovakia operating on 1, 2, 5 or 10 SKK coins.

Mobile operators

There are three mobile operators in Slovakia:

1. Orange
2. T-mobile
3. O2

You can choose your mobile operator based on your criteria and services of the particular mobile operators. All mobile operators in Slovakia offer price plans with bundled minutes and prepaid cards. If you choose price plans, you will be charged monthly fee and you are required to sign a contract usually for 24 months. With price plans you are entitle to purchase a new cell phone for special prices. After the agreed period you can prolong your contract for another 24 months when you are again entitled to buy a new cell phone for special prices. There are usually several price plans availabe at each mobile operator.

If you do not wish to be bound by any contracts or you are not planning to use your cell phone in Slovakia on regular basis, you can purchase a prepaid card. You can add money to your card whenever necessary. The top-up cards are available in most shops, news agents and petrol stations in Slovakia.  You can debit your card via ATM, Internet or SMS. There is Prima card by Orange Mobile Operator, Easy card by T-mobile and O2 card by O2 Mobile Operator.
