Location: Bratislava, above the Danube River, in close distance to the historical district
The square-shaped Bratislava Castle with its four towers rises on the hill, overlooking the Danube River. The castle presently houses the Slovak National Museum exhibits - historical and music museums and the concert hall. You can also visit a castle restaurant located on the property. In the past the castle served as the seat of the Habsburg dynasty. Ferdinand I. inhabited the castle after the Battle of Mohacs in 1526, and in the same period the castle had been renovated. A huge fire destroyed the castle in 1811 and no further renovations were conducted until after the WW2. For more than 200 years, Bratislava was a coronation city and the Bratislava Castle was the seat of the king and hosted the sessions of the Hungarian Diet.
