Smolenice Castle looms over the village Smolenice in western Slovakia. It is a lovely historical site surrounded by nature and a nice well maintained park. The castle was constructed on the ruins of the original castle from the fourteenth century. Its today’s look is from the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The construction started on the command of Juraj Pálfy in 1887. Smolenice Castle and Bojnice Castle are masterpieces designed by the same architect. Smolenice Castle is characteristic by lovely courtyards and beautiful surrounding panorama. Since 1953 it has been housing the SAV – Slovak Academy of Sciences and serves as its congress centre. However the Castle park is accessible any time, the Castle is opened to public only in summer months: July and August.
